2. FLOATING

If you are a beginner learning how to swim, it is useful to learn how to relax yourself and use buoyancy to float on the surface of water. Floating paves a way to mastering different swimming strokes.

Quick Rewind:

  1. In shallow water, eliminate any unnecessary movements and relax.

  2. Lightly kick your legs to keep them
    up if they sink naturally.

  3. If floating in front, take a deep breath before starting.

The human body is, by weight, roughly two-thirds water. This means your density is similar to that of water. Thus, you shouldn’t have to do much, if any, work to float on top of the water.

Thus, your body wants to float more than it wants to sink.
